Measles
Measles is a serious disease caused by a very infectious virus. It can be dangerous and lead to serious complications such as pneumonia and encephalitis (inflammation of the brain). It has no cure, so prevention through vaccination is the only way to reduce the risk of harm to your family.
The measles vaccine (given as a three- or four- in-one vaccine which protects against measles, mumps, rubella, and chickenpox) – often called the MMR vaccine – is available for free on the NHS to everyone in England. It is normally given as a two-dose schedule to children at 12 months and 18 months of age but can be given to anyone older than this who has missed doses.
Measles is currently spreading throughout our communities amongst people who have not had two doses of the MMR vaccine. This is leading to serious illness and hospitalisation. The good news is that it takes around five minutes to protect yourself and your children against this illness by booking an appointment for your MMR vaccine.
Please contact us today to book an appointment for your MMR vaccine. We have lots of weekend and evening appointments available with our friendly nursing staff for those who cannot attend during normal working hours.
